The proposed project is strongly international and will involve a global community of multidisciplinary scientists. This will enable us to explore the linkages between sea level change, coastline migration and human adaptation in a variety of regional settings, ranging from tectonically active (e.g., Caucasian coast, Sea of Marmara) to stable (e.g., Manych Depression) areas as well as areas of temperate (e.g., north-western coast of the Black Sea) to sub-tropical (e.g., Israeli coast) climate. Strong international support for this project is demonstrated by over 200 letters of support for the original project submission to UNESCO from 23 countries; about 75% are from developing countries.
